Charles W. Cash,81, passed away on February 23, 2026, after an extended illness.
He was born on December 23, 1944, in Conneaut, Ohio and was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County. A graduate of Grand Valley High School, he also attended Jamestown Community College, Jamestown, NY, where he met the love of his life Hildreth L. Haug and enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
Charles was employed as a professional long-haul driver for most of his life, and combined with his passion for playing softball, gave him and his wife the opportunity to travel the country. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, reading and playing cards and he truly loved playing softball. Charlie and Hildy spent years traveling to softball tournaments. Starting in 1975, he played continuously for numerous teams, some of which include: Geneva Eagles, Town Tavern, Ohio Sealants and in 1984, won the Ohio Class B state championship with The Gallery. He started playing senior softball at age 50 playing for teams that competed at the National and World levels, collecting championship rings, trophies and numerous mementos. He travelled to 37 states, winning numerous World titles and All World selections, until he was 75 years old and a lung illness stopped him from competing. He was Charles, Chuck and Charlie to all who loved him.
Survivors include his children: Christopher (Jodi) Cash of Ashtabula, Rebecca (Roger Bird) Cash of Cuyahoga Falls and Michael Cash of Orwell; grandchildren: Heather Cash, Alexi Cash (Vincent) Trivisonno, Christa Cash, Michael Cash, Carly Cash, Emma Cash; and great grandchildren: Zuri Cash Smith and Nora Cash; brother, Perry (Mayme) Millard of Denmark, sister-in-law Patricia Millard of Pierpont, several beloved nieces and nephews and loving companion Judith Dalin of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph Clyde Millard, Henry F. Cash, Leota Millard Cash, his wife Hildreth L. Cash, brothers Gaylord Millard, Henry Cash Jr., Russell Cash, Bob Cash, Ray Cash, Jim Cash and Sister Helen Cash.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 27, 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home 526 W. Prospect Rd, Ashtabula with a funeral service to follow. Charles will be laid to rest Saturday, February 28 at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg at 12:00pm.
